The Land

reGen LLC works with land and livestock owners across the Intermountain West and High Plains to manage a variety of ecological types. From high mountain pastures in Wyoming to the great grasslands of the Plains States, our expertise in land management spans a large gamut. Read on to learn about some of the different ecological systems we are currently stewarding.

Ecological Types

  • Jay Em Ranch - Lusk, WY

Located about midway between the North Platte River valley at Lingle, WY, and the Niobrara River headwaters near Lusk, WY, lies the Seven Sisters Ranch owned by the Reese Family, and the Baldwin Pasture owned by Blue Sky LLC and Sage and Faith Askin, together becoming the Jay Em Ranch. This ranch is on the divide between these two parallel river channels and contains the headwaters of Jay Em Creek and its confluence with Rawhide Creek north of Jay Em, Wyoming. About 34,000 acres of northern mixed prairie grasses exemplify one of Wyoming's best hardgrass ranches, centered on Highway 85.

On the Lusk Unit, we manage an entire watershed of Jay Em Creek, and the unique topography and sandstone rock formations bridge the divide between hardgrass plateaus that showcase the best stock cattle country in the United States and the warm and mild winter ground on the southwestern reaches of the ranch, where Rawhide Creek ripples and flows towards the Platte. The combination of being about 5000 feet in elevation, along with cool nights and hot summer days, and the blend of big four tallgrass prairie grasses with short hardy sod grasses create a unique and cherished ecosystem. Mule deer and antelope frequent the area, and over 150 grass paddocks allow for a high degree of grazing management where we optimize grazing techniques for cows, stocker cattle, and sheep to match the range.

We raise 130 acres of alfalfa hay and this ranch provides all the forage needed to raise some of Wyoming's best Black Angus calves and provide nearly unmatched gains on grass cattle. We also host the Wyoming Sheep Feedlot where with grain we can grow lambs until they are ready for sale or turnout.

  • Bennet Ranch - Marshall, WY

Located at 7200 feet elevation on the Northern Laramie Plains, the Bennet Ranch has been owned by two families since the Homestead Act; the Bennet Family who homesteaded it, and the Irwin Family. Owned by Sage's mom, Terry, and Sage and Faith Askin, about 5000 acres of combined owned, State of Wyoming, and BLM leased land, we summer about 200 cows or 300 yearlings on the banks of Sheep Creek. Terry Askin provides top-notch care and the small, wiry grasses of the frigid windswept plains meet artifact-laden camp spots all along Sheep Creek. Sheep Creek has some of the best brook trout freshwater fisheries in Wyoming, and elk make this ranch their winter home as they come out of the snowy Northern Laramie range every fall. Terry is a treasured partner for reGen LLC, and this is one of our most scenic ranches. We are truly blessed to be able to manage the Bennet Ranch in Albany County's farthest reach. We manage a 16-pasture rotation very carefully and are working to always improve the habitat for sage grouse and elk as well as putting weight on our cattle and sheep.

  • Piney Draw Ranch - Medicine Bow, WY

Located near Medicine Bow, WY lies a historic property owned by Big Sky Montana LLC. The Pine Draw Ranch was one of reGen's first properties. We summer cattle and sheep here with seasonal reservoirs and water pumped from the Medicine Bow River. The short, nutritious grazing has allowed some of the best early spring performance we have ever seen. Our herder may herd sheep here in the shadow of the Cronberg and Palm herds of the twentieth century, and in their spirit, we continue to raise some of Wyoming's finest lamb crops.

  • Brush Creek Ranch - Atkinson, NE

Dr. Lon W. Keim has carefully crafted the Brush Creek Ranch to be one of Nebraska's finest properties. Located on Brush Creek, containing the confluence of Brush Creek's two main branches, and located just west of Nebraska's Highway 11 and a few miles upstream of the Niobrara River, the Brush Creek ranch is our most diverse property. We primarily manage 60% yearling cattle for the early summer and 40% cow/calf pairs from rock-steady Nebraska cattlemen, while supporting sheep and goat herds. Dr. Keim has been an advocate for adaptive multi-paddock (AMP) grazing. This ranch has a storied history as grazing techniques have been refined over the past 40 years on one of the easternmost parts of the Nebraska Sandhills. Annual rainfall of 23 inches and the ranch's 4000+ acres of pothole meadows lead to green growing grass even in the driest times. We can here experiment with some of Nebraska's most progressive grazing techniques. Our dairy pastures (so named by Terry Gompert) produce over 2 tons per acre of lush green feed from the wet mat that drains into Brush Creek. Some of the nation's finest Whitetail deer make the canyons of Brush Creek their home, and Kid Wade roamed this part of Nebraska where you could misplace a herd of horses and not even know it in the days of yore. We are honored to have Conner Castleberry, Dauze Taylor, and Ricardo Quispe Huaman to care for the livestock at Brush Creek Ranch.

  • Cramer Ranch - Healy, KS

The Cramer Ranch is one of western Kansas's most appealing properties. Located on Salt Creek not far from the Smoky Hill River, the entire area was once home to an inland ocean. The beautiful expansive shortgrass prairie gives way to the flowing Salt Creek drainage. The limestone bedrock has led to rich silty loam soils where Kansas grows some of its best dryland crops under no-till practices. The Cramer Ranch is where we can operate a very advanced AMP grazing system and we house a group of nice steers for clients and a group of Kansas's finest Dorper hair sheep for the summer months. Using genetics developed at Hayes, Kansas, our easy-care herd produces lots and lots of lambs.
